Trolls: La Fauna Nociva de las Redes Sociales.

Troll es el adjetivo que utilizan los cibernautas, para referirse a todas aquellas personas que escudadas bajo un seudónimo buscan provocar intencionadamente la ira y el descontrol de otros usuarios de redes sociales, blogs y foros de discusión alojados en Internet.

Los objetivos que persiguen estos molestos personajes realizando sus “travesuras” son diversos, mientras unos ven esta práctica como simple diversión, hay quienes movidos por algún oscuro interés quieren crear controversia, fungir de moderadores cuando se discute sobre ciertos temas o bien marcar agenda introduciendo temas propuestos por quien o quienes les patrocinan.

Otros de la misma especie se encargan de desviar la atención sobre ciertos tópicos que afecten los intereses que defienden en ese momento y algunos más se valen del insulto para sacar de quicio a miembros respetados de la comunidad o lideres de opinión. Su blanco específico son personas con poca experiencia dentro de la red y hombres o mujeres de carácter sensible o irritable que puedan caer relativamente fácil dentro de sus juegos de provocación.

La intención de estos sujetos es captar la atención de los usuarios de la red social a cualquier precio. El Troll puede llegar a desarrollar sus habilidades de manipulación al grado de actuar como “picapleitos” poniendo a pelear a usuarios con distintas opiniones, creando un ambiente nocivo y hostil.

La denominación Troll para identificar a este tipo de cibernautas viene según una de las teorías que se manejan sobre su origen del verbo inglés” troll” que es como se define una técnica de pesca deportiva también conocida como pesca de arrastre.

El concepto evoca metafóricamente la idea de que “un pez muerda el anzuelo”, acción parecida a la que realizan los Trolls pescando incautos. Normalmente las discusiones provocadas por este tipo de personas son estériles, ya que regularmente demuestran pocos argumentos en sus alegaciones y bajan el nivel del debate echando mano de mentiras e insultos cuando se ven desarmados ante una situación determinada.

Lo que el Troll se llevó

El relativo anonimato que brinda la red se convierte en caldo de cultivo donde el número de Trolls tiende a multiplicarse. El saldo en un foro de discusión  o una red social al paso de los Trolls es siempre negativo, ya que empleando sus estrategias retrogradas acaban con la armonía y el gran potencial que tiene la red para construir acuerdos e intercambiar ideas, que deriven en acciones que mejoren el entorno social.

Desaniman a la gente que de buena fe quiere participar en los debates de ideas y aportar su granito de arena para hacer un cambio positivo. Atacan de mala manera y sin argumentos sólidos a aquellos que no comulgan con su ideología, llegando en ocasiones al nivel del insulto o llevando la discusión al plano personal. En resumen crean un ambiente hostil donde la libre expresión se ve rebasada por individuos que haciendo uso de ese derecho lo degradan en un afán poco constructivo.


Que hacer para no caer

En situaciones como esta, donde se tiene que lidiar con una persona conflictiva que si bien es cierto es hábil en el control de sus recursos emocionales y tecnológicos; utiliza esos dones de una manera negativa, enredando a las personas que son menos diestras en el manejo de las nuevas tecnologías de la información o en el control de sus emociones haciéndoles caer en una dinámica de conflicto, donde nadie, ni siquiera ellos resultan beneficiados.

Lo que nos indica el sentido común es casi siempre lo correcto y el consejo sugerido es contrarrestar el gran deseo que tienen estos personajes por llamar la atención ignorándoles. Hay que evitar alimentar el ego de estos sujetos entrando en sus discusiones sin rumbo y prestando oídos sordos a sus insultos.

En resumen debemos entender que con un Troll no se puede llegar a un debate constructivo, no se puede negociar con ellos y mucho menos razonar.
Proporcionar a este tipo de personas la atención que tanto ansían es darles lo que quieren. Hay que tratar de no caer en la tentación de responder a sus provocaciones, lo correcto en caso de replicar es hacerlo con un mensaje educado y nunca perder la calma, si se pierde la cordura el Troll gana.
