Aunque parezca que la red social Twitter lleva con nosotros toda la vida y que dependemos de esta herramienta como si fuese un elemento vital en nuestro desempeño diario, dicho canal de comunicación cumplió apenas 5 años el pasado lunes 21 de marzo.

El famoso sitio de microbloggin cuyo nombre traducido al español sería algo como: “Trino”, originalmente inició como un proyecto de investigación y desarrollo para una pequeña empresa de informática situada en San Francisco, California llamada en esos días Obvious, LLC.

El primer twitt de la historia se envió el 21 de marzo de 2006, el primer nombre del proyecto fue “Twttr” un nombre simple compuesto por 5 letras inspirado en la red Flickr. La persona responsable de que hoy en día Twitter sea una realidad se llama Jack Dorsey, fue él quien desarrolló la plataforma original y actualmente funge como Presidente del Consejo de Administración de Twitter, Inc.

El tweet que envió Dorsey aquel 21 de marzo invitaba a sus compañeros de trabajo a sumarse a la nueva red social y decía originalmente: “inviting coworkers”
Después de ese histórico mensaje pasaron siete meses para que Twitter fuera echado a andar y posteriormente lanzado al público durante el mes de octubre de 2006.

En un principio el servicio de microbloggin era utilizado de manera interna por los miembros de la compañía, al poco tiempo de iniciar operaciones ganó mucha popularidad y con ello un gran número de seguidores.

Desde aquel 21 de marzo de 2006, se han escrito unos 30.000 millones de tweets, hoy en día esta red social tiene poco más de 200 millones de usuarios y se ha convertido en una de las redes sociales más influyentes de México y el mundo.

Se calcula que La compañía fundada por Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone y Evan Williams, ha ganado alrededor de 35 millones de dólares en estos primeros 5 años.

Bajo el slogan: Follow your interest, Discover your world, Twitter lanzó un video especial con motivo de su quinto aniversario en el que varias personalidades relatan su experiencia utilizando el servicio de microblogging.

Entre estos famosos usuarios se encuentran hombres y mujeres de diversos ámbitos, desde estrellas del deporte como: Serena Williams, hasta artistas como el excéntrico Snoop Dogg o empresarios como Richard Brason fundador de Virgin Enterprises.
