La importancia que tiene la Internet en la vida moderna es sumamente grande, basta echar un vistazo a la rutina cotidiana de cualquier habitante de un centro urbano elegido al azar para percatarnos de que la interconexión es un fenómeno inminente.

A continuación revisaremos un par de iniciativas por parte de Facebook para combatir dos graves problemas sociales: el acoso a través de Internet, también denominado “Cyber Bullyng” y el suicidio.

Medidas contra el “Cyber Bullyng”

Facebook está trabajando en una aplicación por medio de la cual los usuarios que puedan ser víctimas de acoso por parte de otros usuarios podrán denunciar el hecho ante los administradores de la red.

Esta nueva medida, busca prevenir el abuso y malas prácticas en Internet, otorgando un rol muy importante a los amigos de la víctima, ya que ellos también podrán hacer denuncias y reportes del hecho en caso de ser necesario, una vez que la posible victima les haya certificado en Facebook como amigos cercanos.

La noticia llega poco tiempo después de que la Casa Blanca comenzara una agresiva campaña promovida por Barack y Michelle Obama, Presidente y Primera Dama de los Estados Unidos para concienciar a la población escolar sobre las graves consecuencias que está llegando a tener este nuevo tipo de abuso entre los jóvenes adolescentes.

Aplicaciones que evitan suicidios

En este mismo tenor de combate a los problemas que aquejan a la sociedad, la compañía de Mark Zuckerberg trabaja con la agrupación inglesa Samaritans en el desarrollo y posterior lanzamiento de una aplicación que habilita a los usuarios de Facebook para que puedan reportar ante los administradores de dicha red a los amigos que crean puedan estar contemplando el suicido como medida para salir de sus problemas, y así poder ayudarles.

Samaritans ;es una organización que trabaja en Reino Unido e Irlanda brindando orientación a personas que atraviesan por etapas depresivas ,sobre todo a aquellas quienes puedan considerar el quitarse la vida como una opción.

Una vez lanzada esta aplicación, cualquiera que esté preocupado por un amigo o conocido puede llenar una forma que aparecerá en facebook, la cual cuestionará los motivos para hacer el reporte, una vez cumplido este requisito el documento será remitido a los administradores de la red.

Algunas de las compañías, ya están actuando en contra de la problemática social desde el mundo virtual, haciendo a su manera una forma de trabajo social, con el fin de ayudar de alguna manera a los usuarios y así retribuir en algo el gran poder que les han otorgado.
