Desde hace tiempo casi cada mes aparece alguna información denunciando problemas de privacidad en Facebook. Pues bien, a todo los visto hasta ahora hoy tenemos que sumar otro nuevo caso de problemas de privacidad en Facebook: según investigaciones de la publicación The Wall Street Journal muchas de las aplicaciones de la red social han estado filtrando información de los usuarios a terceras partes.

Concretamente el dato que multitud de aplicaciones, entre las que se encuentran las 10 más populares de Facebook, han compartido es la ID única de usuario, número gracias al cual se puede obtener muy fácil toda clase de información de estos —depende del grado de privacidad configurado pero conociendo el ID de X usuario se puede conseguir desde el nombre hasta el correo electrónico o la edad—.

Aunque según Facebook en la mayoría de los casos los desarrolladores de aplicaciones no tenían intención de transmitir públicamente la ID de los usuarios, la realidad es que algunas empresas —como por ejemplo Rapleaf Inc.— han aprovechado la tesitura para engordar sus bases de datos (las cuales venden a compañías de publicidad o monitorización de datos online) con información de usuarios obtenida gracias a la ID de los mismos en Facebook (que a su vez obtuvieron a partir de aplicaciones).

Obviamente tras destaparse todo esto Facebook ya ha dicho que tomarán cartas en el asunto, aunque la solución no es fácil ya que son muchas las apps afectadas y a que las dificultades técnicas a las que se enfrenta son mayores que en otras ocasiones.

Voluntarias o involuntarias la realidad es que estas nuevas filtraciones han dejado claro que las políticas para desarrolladores por sí solas sirven de poco (Facebook prohíbe expresamente en ellas compartir o vender datos de los usuarios). No solamente hay que tenerlas si no también vigilar que se apliquen adecuadamente y acompañar esto con mejoras técnicas que eviten violaciones de privacidad de cualquier tipo.
