Tal vez la siguiente escena se te haga familiar: te encuentras en una reunión de trabajo o comiendo con un grupo de personas y uno de ellos acaba de descubrir Twitter, el grupo comienza a interactuar y uno de los asistentes tiene la costumbre de estar revisando constantemente la pantalla de su Blackberry para ver de que se habla en la red social, incluso, cuando se pierde de vista sigue platicando mientras descaradamente se atreve a twittear justo en medio de la conversación.

Es posible que nadie lo comente en voz alta pero todos piensan: bueno, ¿Qué se esta pensando? ¿Qué no va a hacer caso a nadie o que?, seguro es más importante el aparatito ese que esta conversación, a ver cuando deja el mugre teléfono y demás ideas en ese sentido.

El experto en temas de informática y profesor de la Universidad de Standford Larry Rosen escribió un artículo sobre el llamado “Multitasking” (multi tareas) aplicado a las relaciones sociales, donde antes de entrar al análisis en profundidad hace una primera observación por demás interesante; invita al lector a detenerse un momento, tomarse una pausa y empezar a observar a su alrededor, para después preguntarse: ¿A cuántas personas ves enviando un mensaje de texto? ¿Cuántas con audífonos puestos? ¿Cuántas consultando alguna red social desde un dispositivo móvil? ¿Cuántas tomando fotografías con el celular?

Después de esta primera toma de conciencia lo que plantea Rosen es si una persona disfruta de una reunión social en mayor o menor medida si la comparte electrónicamente (vía dispositivo móvil) a través de las redes sociales de Internet. El asunto no es de menor importancia y esta relacionado directamente con las normas que rigen la convivencia social.

La situación nos puede colocar en un contexto incomodo, ¿Cómo te sentirías, si te encontraras en medio de la presentación de un importante proyecto y de pronto el público al cual te diriges comienza a sacar su smartphone y empiezan a Twittear o a revisar su perfil de Facebook? Seguramente tu primera reacción será pensar: que audiencia tan maleducada, pero que tal si tu presentación es tan buena y la exposición de los temas es tan interesante que la audiencia decide compartirlo a traves de Twitter o Facebook, en ese caso tal vez te sientas halagado. Como podemos observar en la comparativa de los dos escenarios puede que las redes sociales y el llamado multitasking social estén cambiando la percepción sobre lo que conocemos como buenos y malos modales.

Pero Larry Rosen lleva el análisis al siguiente nivel afirmando que no es que las nuevas generaciones realicen varias actividades a la vez, si no que son más hábiles para pasar de una tarea a otra y sumado a esto recalca que dicha característica no afecta la comprensión del tema central.

Aquí es donde se abre paso al debate porque hay quienes no concuerdan con Rosen y prefieren mantener el multitasking fuera de las relaciones sociales. Y es que todavía resulta poco adecuado y de mal gusto el hecho de que alguien empiece a Twittear o a revisar su Facebook en medio de una conversación, sobre todo cuando esta conviviendo con un número reducido de personas.


¿Quien es Larry Rosen?

Lawrence Rosen también conocido como Larry Rosen, es abogado y experto en informática. Socio fundador de Rosenlaw & Einschlag, un bufete de abogados especializado en tecnología ubicado en California, el cual es reconocido mundialmente por ser de los mejores en cuestiones de propiedad intelectual y venta de licencias de empresas de tecnología.

Fue consejero general y secretario de la iniciativa Open Source, y Asesor de compañias y proyectos como : the Apache Software Foundation, Python software, and the Free Standards Group.

Actualmente Rosen es profesor de la escuela de leyes de la Universidad de Stanford y autor de las licencias académicas y de software libre, además de miembro del consejo directivo de la Open Web Foundation.
