Cincuenta años después de que la ex primera dama redactara la columna de periódico “Campaign Wife” sobre cómo vivía la campaña lejos de su esposo y embarazada, la institución ha imaginado cómo lo habría contado si en lugar de una máquina de escribir hubiera tenido un ordenador con conexión a Internet y muchos seguidores en Twitter.

“Por primera vez desde que Jack y yo estamos casados, no he podido estar con él mientras hace campaña” , reza el primer mensaje publicado en la cuenta, bajo el nombre de “@jbk1960” .

La elección de la fecha de comienzo de los mensajes no es casual: hoy se cumple medio siglo de la publicación de la primera de las siete columnas que Jackie escribió para apoyar la campaña presidencial de su marido y que se distribuían a varios periódicos a través del Comité Nacional Demócrata.

En los cinco mensajes publicados hasta el momento en la cuenta de Twitter, que resume las frases más reveladoras de los artículos en 140 caracteres, Jackie muestra su “frustración” por permanecer en su casa de Hyannis Port (Massachusetts) y “no participar en absoluto” en la campaña.

“He decidido que una forma de dejar de sentirme al margen sería hablar a través de esta columna a la gente amable de todo el país” , dice otro mensaje.

La ex primera dama, que murió de cáncer en 1994, confiesa también que “la peor parte” fue “no estar en Los Ángeles para la nominación” de su marido, y subraya que ella insistió en viajar, pero su ginecólogo “se opuso firmemente” .
